My name is Kirsty and I’m mum to two wee people and one furry baby in bonny Scotland! I set up Hand in Hand Therapies because working with women in a positive way lights me up inside!


My journey into motherhood has been profound. Before I was pregnant, I honestly didn’t think I would let having babies change me. I’d carry on as I had done before and they would just come along for the ride… eh, wrong!! I’ve changed in ways I could never have imagined and I don’t think I would have been on the path I’m on with my career otherwise. My babies teach me every single day. Raising two humans is bloody hard going but the rewards are so worth it. It’s unconditional love at it’s purest.

Throughout my first pregnancy, I felt afraid. I spoke to so many people who told me in no uncertain terms, just how terrible childbirth would be because that’s what they had experienced. I watched waaaay too much One Born Every minute and I read waaaay to many scary stories on the internet. I filled my head with negative thoughts and scared myself shitless.

And that was pretty much how it went down when I gave birth. I was scared of the unknown and scared of the pain. I just wanted it to be over so that I could join the others in retelling just how shitty it was.

A year later I found myself pregnant again and I could feel those emotions start to resurface. This time I decided that I would take control. With a background in nursing, counselling and hypnotherapy, I decided to train in hypnobirthing so that I could use it myself and go on to help others.

It’s been the best decision I ever made. Not only did it help me have a much more positive birth, but it’s given me a career where I can work with women in a way that really resonates with me.

My goal is to help as many women as I can feel more positively towards pregnancy, birth and motherhood.  I want to do that both face-to-face and in the online world.

I’m currently offering three classes: Hypnobirthing, Relaxation in Pregnancy and Positive Birth.

I’ve been up and running for a year now and I’m really excited to announce that all my future classes will be held in Zensory treatment room on Falkirk High Street.

I was really fortunate to meet holistic therapist Maria Hunter of Zensory recently at a baby fair. We quickly released that we have very similar ideas around supporting women, as well as having young kids and running our own businesses. Maria is such an inspirational woman, her passion for supporting women oozes from her and she is so positive to be around. If I was pregnant I would definitely be booking a massage with Maria! She is also growing her business to expand her offering with services such as Reiki, postnatal massage and she will be holding support group meetings too.

We will be linking up closely over the coming months to deliver joint classes and resources to offer support for mums who are experiencing higher levels of anxiety in pregnancy.

Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal programme which teaches mums and dads the physiology of a woman’s body during labour and childbirth, the relationship between the mind and body an how to apply relaxation techniques using self-hypnosis. It enables a woman to work with her body, which is naturally designed to give birth, and to replace fear with a calm confidence. When calm, her body produces the hormone oxytocin, which helps her uterine muscles work more effectively and efficiently. Oxytocin triggers the production of endorphins, which are often referred to as nature’s pain relief, so the body is perfectly designed to give birth efficiently and comfortably; the perfect system is already in place. It promotes natural childbirth with less need for medical intervention (as and where appropriate) which is empowering for both mother and father in helping them make informed decisions throughout labour. Hypnobirthing aims to create a calm and peaceful environment for welcoming a new baby into the world and is therefore beneficial for mum, dad and baby too.

Relaxation in Pregnancy

The 4 weeks of classes are designed to encourage mums to take time out for relaxation. Each week covers an aspect of pregnancy and childbirth, mindset exercises, breathing technique and scripts using visualisations to help you relax deeply. This is a great introduction to hypnobirthing and is a fantastic chance to meet other mums-to-be and enjoy an 1 1/2 hours every week of special time to focus on you and your precious baby. Visualisation is a great way to allow you to relax and promote positive thinking through the power of words.

Positive Birth Workshops

For one reason or another, you may find it difficult to commit to coming along to regular classes. To help with this, I have created the positive birth workshop. It’s a one-off class lasting 3 hours and is packed with useful info, tips and practical techniques designed to help you feel more positively toward birth and parenthood.
